Hello Neighbor!

When we talk with our friends, families and neighbors, the state of the city seems to be preoccupying us. And there seems to be a common thread.

We want to live in a city that works for all of us.

Portland is at an important civic juncture

We can feel it. Portland is dusting herself off and trying hard to be the city we love. In November 2024, as citizens, we have an opportunity to elect candidates for 12 City Council positions. Pivotal positions that will have great influence on how effectively the city runs and recovers.

What is 12 for PDX?

We are a grassroots coalition representing a broad cross-section of your Portland neighbors with a simple mission: identify and endorse the most collaborative and results-oriented candidates to the 12 City Council seats.

12 for PDX is unique and unlike any other entity.

We are:

  • NOT funded by special interests
  • NOT beholden to city contracts
  • NOT single issue oriented
  • And above all, NOT partisan

We are here for ALL of Portland, to help us elect 12 officials who have the skills, experience and temperament to guide Portland forward.

Why it matters

The November election is defined by four unprecedented events:

1

In 2022, citizens voted for the first time in 100 years for a new form of city government. A strong signal that change was wanted.

2

In addition to an appointed City Manager who oversees the agency bureaus, the new structure calls for the election of 12 City Councilors in four newly configured districts who will set policy and represent citizens.

3

Three candidates from each district will be elected via a multi-member rank-choice voting method – a method unfamiliar to most citizens.

4

To add to the perplexity, there are over 80 candidates running for 12 seats.

All of this leads to a good deal of confusion and potential of voter fatigue.

Or worse, no voting at all. And yet, Portland is desperate for change.

12 for PDX was formed to help Portlanders living and working in each district select the best qualified candidates by vetting all candidates, and endorsing those who meet key criteria.
