Purpose
We represent the majority of Portlanders
Portland’s majority needs a voice
Whether you see yourself left or right of center, the majority of us agree on some basic things.
12 for PDX represents the new middle—it’s a space where the volume is turned down, conversation is valued, idealism goes hand in hand with practicality, and people value getting things done.
We want a city that has …
Clean, accessible public spaces
Safe streets and neighborhoods
Reliable city services
Ready access to mental health and substance-abuse services
A thriving local business environment
And we would like to see the effective use of our hard-earned tax dollars to achieve these goals
What’s going on:
In 2022, Portlanders voted for change and passed a charter to establish a new government structure.
In addition to an appointed City Manager who oversees the bureaus, the charter calls for an expanded City Council with 12 representatives from four newly formed districts.
What is the job of the City Council?
It is the legislative body for the City of Portland
Convenes public meetings, gathers input, debates, evaluates policy choices
Passes laws, policies and regulations that govern the city
Approves the city budget
May issue bonds, levy taxes and sets most rates and fees
