CITY-WIDE SING-ALONG HELPS PORTLANDERS VOTE IN NOV. 5 ELECTION
Grassroots coalition 12 for PDX releases a catchy music video to increase voter engagement
PORTLAND, Ore. – Oct. 8, 2024 – A new 2024 election campaign song is taking hold in Portland, Ore. The sing-along aims to unify Portlanders around the changes in this election and provide voting resources specific to the Portland City Council race.
The catchy tune was released on social media Oct. 5 by 12 for PDX, a grassroots, nonprofit, nonpartisan group, who published City Council endorsements in its Portland Easy Voter Guide and at a public event held Sept. 5, 2024 at the Jupiter Hotel on E. Burnside St. The song and video were created by Portland-based agency Must Be Something and produced by Justin Lowe in collaboration with the Baker Brothers.
“This song, like our grassroots coalition 12 for PDX, was formed to help Portland voters select a new City Council that reflects the priorities and values of the majority of Portlanders,” said Edy Dorsen, an organizer of 12 for PDX.
“Music brings people together and is often a uniting force,” added 12 for PDX organizer, Lani Hayward. “We are inviting Portanders – including well-known musicians - to record and share their own versions of the 12 for PDX voting song.”
Eighteen 12 for PDX volunteers from across the City’s four newly formed districts spent hundreds of hours vetting, evaluating, interviewing and discussing the more than 80 candidates running for 12 spots on Portland City Council. The effort resulted in the endorsement of 22 candidates that met the group's criteria.
